Substation and High Voltage Engineer This highly skilled individual will be responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of our client's wind farm electrical infrastructure, including substations and high voltage collection systems. The Substation and High Voltage Engineer will be responsible for monitoring of system performance, investigation and mitigation of system problems, and providing feedback to design and engineering groups to ensure that installations cost effectively meet system requirements. Work with wind farm project management and construction groups in commissioning and testing of substations, transmission interconnection facilities, and other power delivery systems, including ensuring compliance with design standards and accuracy of final documentation and test data. Manage external professionals who provide technical expertise and project support in evaluation of operations issues. Provide input to design standards for electrical infrastructure in wind farm power projects. Prepare procedures and conducts training for wind farm Operations and Maintenance personnel on high-voltage switchgear operations. Assist wind farm Operations and Maintenance personnel with other wind turbine infrastructure components such as but not limited to: generators, frequency converters, capacitor, and reactor banks. Adhere to effective internal controls. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years experience in project engineering and construction. 5+ years experience in electrical substation, transmission system, distribution systems, or power generation design. Demonstrated design and operations experience with distribution and trans-mission substation voltages up to 230 kV. Ability to climb 80 meter steel towers on occasional basis to perform root cause analysis investigation on turbine component failures. Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management and reporting systems, diagnostic and troubleshooting tools. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to read and interpret schematics /electrical one-line diagrams. Possession of comprehensive writing skills for upwards reporting. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment. (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, meghommeters, and various hand and power tools.) Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential. Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time. Preference may be given to candidates with the following: Registered Professional Electrical Engineer. Demonstrated design and operations experience with distribution and sub-transmission substations voltages up to 500 kV. Experience in wind plant operations with recent experience.
